The Qadeer Lab: the laboratory for neurodevelopment and cancer epigenetics

The Qadeer Lab

The Qadeer Lab investigates how epigenetic mechanisms shape neural development and how their disruption drives cancer, using stem cell models, chromatin profiling, and neuro-oncology systems to uncover the molecular logic behind cell fate decisions.

Overview

Our lab studies the chromatin-level mechanisms that guide neural stem cells toward their mature fates — and how cancer cells hijack those same mechanisms to survive and proliferate. By combining stem cell biology, genome-wide chromatin profiling, and neuro-oncology models, we aim to uncover the epigenetic logic underlying both normal brain development and its malignant disruption. Our long-term goal is to translate these mechanistic insights into new diagnostic and therapeutic strategies for brain tumors.
